May Things

May Things

Well today’s post will be a big ol’ heap of randomness (well most of my posts are, but I normally try to make them kind of tie together) because it’s just that kind of day but I feel like I should catch up on the last month or so.

My maternity leave is over and I’m starting work again this week. Mostly I’m bummed about it, but partly I think it might be nice to interact again with human beings who have a grasp on the English language (well sure I can converse with Derrick, but he’s been out of town for the past two weeks, so it’s been a whole lot of me and Pen).

Because I was still on leave during my birthday, I actually got to have a fun birthday not a lame grown-up go to work and do grown-up things all day birthday. Derrick took me to the mall, followed by lunch at one of our favourite restaurants and then Cold Stone ice cream.

I can’t believe how much Penny is changing; she’s so different from a few weeks ago! Her little personality is really starting to come out. Lately, she’s been a lot happier and she wants to interact with everything so much more. I like the new PJ; the faeries better not bring me a changeling again (I think the faeries brought me the grumpy colic baby that I dealt with for weeks and weeks).

Last week I had my first “freaking out because something about my child is not normal” moment; Penny’s eye was extra watery. My mom told me it could be a plugged tear duct or she got something in it and it was probably fine. But as the day went on and it kept getting gooey, I couldn’t stand it so I dragged her to the doctor. Who told me it was mostly likely a plugged tear duct and that I could massage the side of her nose to help it clear up. And then on the way home from said doctor appointment (which interrupted nap time and messed up our schedule),Β someone had a big blowout in the car seat. So when we got home I had a VERY grumpy baby and a big mess and it all could have been prevented had I just listened to my mom πŸ™‚

A few weeks ago when I was at Target I spent $5 at their dollar spot on some little seed kits

And oh my gosh, LOOK!

Things are growing!!! I’m not going to lie, I pretty much figured I had wasted five bucks, but I’m a scientist so it was an experiment. So far, I have some growth in both tomato pots, the basil is growing nicely, and the terracotta pot is supposed to be poppies, so we’ll see how those turn out. I’m obviously a long way from having anything useful out of my little plants, but I’m still pretty impressed that anything is growing at all (Also, if anyone has useful information about transferring these to real pots or how to keep tomato plants alive, etc, I’m all ears).

Other than that, I’ve been watching the Golden State Warriors (mostly) dominate in the playoffs. I’m really hoping for another championship this year, so if we could get another win against OKC tonight, that would be great. I’ve done a little bit of reading in my free time (PJ’s nap time) and have basically just tried toΒ enjoy not working and having all my time to spend with my little girl.

Hope everyone had a great, restful weekend.
