Colic and Korea

Colic and Korea

Well, someone is 2 months old now and has survived her first little baby shots. We had PJ’s checkup today and she actually didn’t do too bad with the shots and she stopped crying when she was guzzling down her rotavirus oral vaccine. She really is my wee one at a little under 9.5 lbs (which is the 8th percentile) but she’s still growing and the pediatrician didn’t seem worried about it, so we’ll keep doing what we’re doing and I’m sure she’ll be fine.

The last two weeks have been maybe some of our roughest since we had PJ. The colic I mentioned last time got waaaaaay worse for a little while (not to jinx myself but she’s been a lot better lately so I’m hoping now that we really are coming out of the colic woods). Like screaming nonstop basically from 11 am to 10 pm except for when she was nursing. What made it worse was that the worst stretch of her colic coincided with DQ’s trip to Korea. He had to go for business for about 10 days and they kind of felt like the longest 10 days of my life. Because it was me and PJ. In the house. All day. Every day. Screaming/crying. I made a lot of phone calls to my mom and sister and some friends to help keep my sanity, but honestly I do not know how some women have to do the single-mom thing all. the. time.

But we did survive our first experience with DQ being out of town, so I know we can do it, even if I hate when he’s gone even more now than I did before. Having a traveling husband is for the birds, really. PJ is starting to smile a lot and is way more interested in toys. Recently she’s been digging her play mat and especially the hedgehog toy that hangs from the top. She will just sit and stare at it for 10 or 15 minutes. I don’t know what is going on in her wee baby brain but if she’s happy, I’m happy.

Derrick brought back some treats from his trip (he had a layover in Japan on his way back)

And two of the women he was working with in Korea got PJ these outfits

So I guess PJ and I both made out pretty good even if we did have to put up with DQ’s absence for a week and a half.

My birthday present from DQ arrived yesterday

Which I’m really excited about because now if he’s out of town or I just can’t get out of the house to workout, I have a way to exercise. I realized, when he was gone, that taking her for walks is nice because it gets me out of the house and we get some fresh air, but not being able to go running or anything was kind of a bummer. So a spin bike doesn’t take up that much space (it’ll probably live on the patio when it’s not in use) and shouldn’t bother the neighbors below us which made me think it would be a good way to solve my problem.

And because I can’t get over PJ’s smiles in her little leopard suit:

Happy Wednesday, y’all!
