Countdowns and Nesting

Countdowns and Nesting

7 weeks until I get to be done with this “being pregnant” thing (I’m really really hoping she’s at least on time and not past my due date)

22 days of work before going on leave

1 more business trip for DQ before he’ll be done with traveling for a few months.

These are the things that I use to gauge time and keep me going these days. I know every other woman who has ever had kids goes through the same kinds of things, but I’m way over swelling hands, horrible sleep, and nausea (isn’t it cute that nausea/morning sickness can come back in the third trimester? It’s not as constant or as bad as first trimester, but it is still no fun at all!). Okay, there, that was my one whine for the post.

So, things are kind of speeding along! Happy 2016 (it only took me 20 days to get my act together to post in the new year)! Hope it has been a good year so far for everyone. My year would have started out even better if Clemson would have beat Alabama in the national championship game, but at least we played a great game. And of course, I’m still proud to be a Tiger πŸ™‚ Derrick was actually in Arizona for a conference, so he went to the game. I know it would have been more fun for him if they had won, but I still think it’s pretty awesome that he was able to experience going to watch his team play in the championship game.

January hasn’t been too exciting. Mostly just really starting to get in gear with getting ready for the Wee One’s arrival. For example, the nursery now looks like this instead of an empty room:

And I’ve washed all the gifts she’s already gotten so I’ve neatly organized everything in her dresser. It’s so weird but also awesome and exciting to walk by the crib and think that in a few weeks, there will be a baby in there (and I like not thinking about the whole, labor/giving birth thing and just focusing on the after)

I’ve finally gotten back to working on a blanket I started during my first trimester. I think mostly I did it because I needed something that was a good distraction/task while I was feeling awful. Once I started feeling better, I don’t think I worked on it at all for quite awhile. Anyway, it’s almost finished, but it looks like this:

So she’ll be ready for next football season πŸ™‚

I’ve been on a cleaning frenzy lately,Β surprise surprise. It’s a combination of feeling the need to start the year off fresh/organized and intense nesting all rolled into one big urge to CLEAN ALL THE THINGS and also to THROW ALL THE THINGS OUT. Even at work, I’ve been purging my lab and work space and I feel so much better after straightening, cleaning, and throwing out junk. Luckily for me, we still have a few areas in the apartment that never quite got cleaned up the way it should have, so I’ll have plenty to keep me busy in the next few weeks.

And really, that’s about all the updates I have about life here for us these days. Work is keeping both of us pretty busy right now. For me, I feel the pressure of needing to accomplish a bunch before I go on leave because I don’t want to come back to a complete disaster because I didn’t set things up better. But at the same time, I’m making sure not to stress too much about it because there’s only so much I can accomplish in a day and whatever doesn’t get done will not seem nearly as important once I’m holding my daughter, I think.

In random final thoughts:

Is anyone else watching theΒ War and Peace mini-series on Lifetime/A&E? I set up the DVR to record it so I have something to watch during Derrick’s final business trip. I hope they do a good job with it; I feel very passionate about my favorites in Russian literature.

I think I need an adult coloring book (can we just all admit that that sounds inappropriate but I don’t know what else to call them and they’re becoming quite trendy as a stress relief method; does coloring books for adult stress relief sound any better?) to entertain myself for evenings when I’m feeling restless or stressed or when I wake up at 3 am and can’t fall asleep. Any good suggestions on where to find them? I think I’ve seen them at the craft store maybe?

I know I’m behind, but I’m really excited about what 2016 will bring (besides a baby!). God blessed us tremendously in 2015 and I’m sure He’s got awesome things in store for us this year. Praying that all y’all also have a very good year full of blessings!

  1. Casey wants to watch the War and Peace mini series πŸ™‚ Also – adult coloring books are EVERYWHERE right now (I got 7 for Christmas) – Craft stores, Hallmark, and books stores are good places to look. Just last weekend, while in Barnes and Noble, I saw a whole table full of them. πŸ™‚ Hope all is well! Miss y’all ❀ Carolyn
